Amid the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), an interesting phenomenon has emerged. More and more people are using AI, yet fewer are truly leveraging it to build scalable income systems.

Many stop at the exploration stage, just experimenting with prompts rather than optimizing them. This is the critical context addressed at the BytePlus Startup Connect event in Bali, themed "Leverage AI: From Skills to Scalable Income", a discussion that brought together AI practitioners to explore how this technology can genuinely become an engine of economic growth, not merely a productivity tool.

The event, held on April 29, 2026, at Awan Connection, Canggu, Bali, featured industry players from both the Indonesian and global markets, including Honglin Li from BytePlus, Fian Febrian from Maleo AI, Leo Sadeq from Ascend AI, and Venandya Camelia from YukYuk!.
One of the key goals of this event was to introduce Indonesia to an international audience as one of the leading tech and talent hubs in Southeast Asia. The discussions went beyond technology, exploring how AI can fundamentally transform the way we earn money, build businesses, and create leverage that was previously unimaginable.

AI Is Growing Fast, But Many Are Focused on the Wrong Things

AI is developing at a remarkable pace, yet many users are still missing the point in how they apply it. AI is often used merely to speed up tasks (writing, design, or coding) without any deeper shift in how work is structured. Yet its impact goes far beyond minor efficiency gains.

Data from Microsoft-IDC shows that around 30–40% of companies have already begun adopting or experimenting with AI, and those that apply it seriously have seen significant improvements in operational efficiency. This signals that AI is no longer just a support tool, it has become a competitive factor in business.
That said, AI adoption still faces barriers, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including limited knowledge, cost constraints, and inadequate infrastructure. As a result, many organizations' use of AI remains surface-level.

The same research indicates that only around 14% of organizations in Indonesia have truly integrated AI into their core strategy, while the majority remain in the experimentation phase. This trend mirrors the global picture, where adoption is increasing but has yet to fully mature, meaning many companies have yet to feel the maximum impact.

From an operational standpoint, AI Automation has proven capable of driving significant efficiency gains, particularly through real-time data analysis, reduced downtime, and improved decision-making accuracy.
These benefits don't just speed up work, they fundamentally change how companies operate, making them more predictive and data-driven. The greatest gains, however, are felt by organizations with strong digital readiness, which can achieve profit growth up to 1.4 times higher than their peers.

Key Insight: AI Is Not a Skill, It's Leverage
One of the most important insights from this event was a fundamental shift in how we should think about AI. Fian Febrian, Founder of Maleo AI, emphasized that AI is too often treated as an additional skill, something to be learned like coding or design. Instead, he argued, AI should be seen as leverage.

"Many people think AI is a tool. But AI is leverage. If you only use it manually, you're still just working. But if you turn it into a system, then you have a business," said Fian.

This statement captures a fundamental shift in mindset. AI is no longer about "what you can do", it's about "how much you can produce from the systems you build."
Maleo AI itself was born from this conviction. Based in Bali, Maleo AI is a software development and AI implementation company serving businesses across Indonesia and global markets, including the US, APAC, and Europe.

Maleo AI helps a wide range of organizations, from startups to large enterprises, identify the most relevant AI use cases, develop solutions from the ground up, and ensure effective deployment in day-to-day operations. Its client portfolio spans companies from the United States, APAC, and the Middle East.

7 Technology Showcases from Maleo AI and Indonesian Partners

One of the most compelling parts of Maleo AI's presentation was how they collaborated with various tech partners across Indonesia. Together, they showcased a diverse range of AI technology implementations already in use, driving operational efficiency, automating workflows, and supporting business scale-up. These were not mere concepts, but real-world solutions deployed to address genuine challenges on the ground.

Several of the showcased products came from technology partners within their collaborative ecosystem.

1. Lead Discovery App: Automating Prospect Discovery

One of the biggest challenges for any sales team is the time-consuming process of finding and validating leads. In many cases, the majority of a salesperson's time is spent researching prospects before any actual outreach can begin.

Maleo AI introduced a Lead Discovery App that helps accelerate and structure the prospect identification process. The system integrates various lead generation needs, including data enrichment, database segmentation, automated outreach, and CRM synchronization.

Implementations like this help sales teams fill their pipelines faster, improve work efficiency, and significantly reduce customer acquisition costs.

2. Mager AI: From a Single Photo to Ad-Ready Content

The showcase also featured Mager AI as a tech partner focused on AI for marketing and design needs.

This platform allows users to transform a single simple photo into ready-to-use promotional materials in a matter of moments. A process that once required designers, editors, and multiple rounds of revision can now be accelerated through AI-powered automation.

For small businesses and marketing teams with limited resources, this approach makes content production significantly faster and more cost-effective.

3. AI-Powered Learning Management System

Maleo AI also demonstrated an AI application in human resource training and development through an AI-powered Learning Management System.

The system is capable of automatically generating quizzes and question variations for each learning module, eliminating the need for manual question creation in assessments. Beyond making training more scalable, this approach also enhances learning quality, each participant can receive a different set of evaluation questions.

For companies with large workforces, this kind of automation allows training programs to run more efficiently without compromising learning quality.

4. Deepfake Detector: Content Verification in the AI Era

As generative AI continues to advance, deepfakes have become a growing challenge for media outlets, educational institutions, and brands alike.

Maleo AI presented a Deepfake Detector solution designed to help verify the authenticity of images and videos. The system is used to validate content before it is published or distributed, particularly in environments that require fast, accurate information verification.

This capability is becoming increasingly relevant as AI-generated synthetic content grows harder to distinguish from genuine material.

5. Pillbox: Smart Employee ID Card Powered by IoT

Beyond AI solutions, the showcase also featured Pillbox as a technology partner offering a Smart Employee ID Card system built on IoT.

The system enables companies to monitor the activities and movement of field teams in real time, from location tracking to the duration of work activities. This data can then be used for operational analysis and optimizing field workforce distribution.

This type of solution is highly relevant for industries with high workforce mobility, such as distribution, retail, and pharmaceuticals.

6. AR-Based Marketing Campaigns

Another showcase came from a collaboration with tech partner Made by Humans, presenting an Augmented Reality (AR)-based marketing campaign solution.
Through this approach, brands can create interactive experiences that allow audiences to directly engage with content through their smartphones. This strategy helps brands generate higher engagement compared to conventional promotional formats.

AR is no longer just a visual gimmick, it is increasingly being used as a core component of immersive experiential marketing.

7. Clipper: AI for Content Creators

The showcase also featured Clipper, an AI-powered video editing tool from Mager AI designed to help content creators accelerate their production workflows.
With AI-driven automation, editing processes that once required significant time can be made faster and simpler. This helps creators and media teams increase production speed without always relying on complex traditional editing workflows.

In an era of rapid content distribution, production efficiency has become one of the key factors for staying competitive.

Why Do So Many People Fail to Leverage AI?

Many people fail not because AI doesn't work, but because of the wrong approach. They focus on tools, not systems. They try out many AI tools but never integrate them into a coherent workflow.

Beyond that, many lack a clear use case. They adopt AI because it's "trending," not because of a genuine business need. As a result, AI becomes little more than an experiment with no tangible outcome.

Looking ahead, we will see a shift toward an agentic economy, where AI doesn't just assist, but independently executes business processes. AI systems will interconnect, forming complex workflows capable of making decisions and adapting autonomously.
However, there are risks that must be acknowledged. AI that operates too autonomously without proper oversight can lead to serious errors, both in terms of cost and decision quality. This is why the concept of "human-in-the-loop" remains essential.

One of the standout insights from the event was the positioning of Bali as a hub for technology and digital talent. Long known as a tourism destination, Bali is now evolving into a center of technological innovation.

The vision is to establish Indonesia as one of Southeast Asia's leading AI and technology hubs starting from Bali. With a combination of local talent, a thriving creator ecosystem, and growing technology investment, this is far from impossible.

AI is not about skill, it's about leverage. Those who use AI merely as a tool will remain locked in a linear work model. Those who build systems with AI, on the other hand, will have the potential for truly scalable income.
This distinction is crucial. In the AI era, competitive advantage is no longer determined by who is the most intelligent, but by who is the most strategic in harnessing the power of technology.
